Juan Ruiz
Juan Ruiz was born in Santa Teresa del Tuy Etado, Miranda,Venezuela on the 07th of August 1986 . One of six children, Juan was seen to excel at sport from a young age. Boxing and Basketball where his two sports of choice. His basketball team became 3x national champions while he was part of the team.
Juan first began to box at 9 years of age. His early inspiration was his father Nelson Ruiz who was a professional Welterweight boxer in Venezuela and once fought the great Carlos Palomino before hanging up his gloves.
Juan excelled at boxing and went on to have a stellar amateur career, contesting 110 contests and finishing with an amateur record of 104-6.
Juan won the Venezuelan National Championships 5 times and was named best boxer of the tournament 3 times. The highlight of Juan’s amateur career was being selected in 2004 for the Venezuelan National Team. While representing Venezuela, Juan competed against some of the worlds best amateur boxers from around the world.
In July 2006 after fighting as an amateur for the previous 10 yrs, Juan moved to Panama City, Panama and entered the professional ranks with a unanimous decision over Marcos Rodriguez. Following the Rodriguez bout, Juan scored 2 first round knockouts over Gerardo Guillen and Juan Saldana. Undefeated at 3-0 Juan stepped up in class and took on the undefeated Alberto Mosquera (the current WBA Fedalatin Champion who is currently ranked number 10 in the world.) The bout was stopped in the second round after a nasty clash of heads and the bout was ruled a no contest. Up until the stoppage Juan was boxing well. For Juan’s next two bouts he traveled to Germany and fought on two Universal Boxing promoted cards, which Juan says, is the highlight of his professional career to date.
Juan lists his idols and influences as Felix “Tito” Trinidad and his father Nelson Ruiz.
With aspirations of becoming a World Champion and creating a legacy for himself in boxing, Juan is single minded and highly motivated to achieve his goals.
Juan is now residing again in Panama and is training under the highly respected Rigoberto Garibaldi.
Once his boxing career is over Juan would like to stay in the sport he loves and become a trainer and dedicate his time to his wife and daughter and thank god for his blessings.
